Overview: Technology and Information Management is clearly becoming an important competitive element for businesses in all industries. As technology continues to evolve, the need for Information Systems Professionals will also increase. IT may also be referred to IS (Information Systems) and MIS (Management Information Systems).
Role: There are a variety of roles for professionals interested in Information Technology. Roles range from systems administrators to support technicians to management information systems professionals. Systems administrators support the information systems; support technicians work with end users to provide assistance with software and hardware; management information systems professionals work with management to determine information needs and then design and build systems.
Qualifications: Several schools offer associate and bachelor's degrees in Information Technology. Those interested in MIS positions should expect to complete an Associates, Bachelor's or a Master's degree.
